Cleaning the Jewish cemetery

Zikaron

Perhaps, it is one of the most ambitious projects of our center. The project was created in a teen club after an AJT workshop. It turned out that memory and respect for elders is one of the key values in life of one boy. For the second year, our volunteers restore and clean the Jewish cemetery of our city. That year, participants registered more than 300 graves. The last action was held in September of that year. On that day, more than 50 people gathered together, including members of other organizations and the Rabbi, to put in order at least some of the burials. A few years later, the day camp for teenagers and young people on cleaning the cemetery started again this year. Our teenagers cleaned passes, put graves in order, cut off branches, sawed trees and threw out garbage. On Sundays, their parents used to come to help in this action.

Shabbat for lonely elderly people

Bake good deeds

Shabbat is one of the most priceless gifts that the God has given us. Even non-religious families consider Friday evening as special and spend it with family. But not all Hesed clients have a family. The challahs, baked by our volunteers, are sent to Rosh Chodesh to lonely older people for Shabbat. Starting from this year, our challahs are completely kosher. The students of the Jewish school bake them every Friday, following all the recipes. On Friday, groups of volunteers visit 2-3 older people, who have no relatives, and arrange Shabbat for them. This evening is full of warm conversations, stories of our clients about their experience as volunteers or just funny and educative moments from their life. Angels come and then the white one says: “Let it be so all the week!”

Holidays for children with special needs

Fascinating weekend

The project is primarily aimed at children with special needs, children from families at risk, and also helps to socialize them. In this project, it happens sometimes that a group of children meets a group of children with special needs, and they always find common interests and have fun. Our center agrees in advance with the city venues for the celebration of a holiday. Volunteers write scripts, prepare costumes, and then go on the stage as animators and the holiday begins. Dances, master classes, mobile and intellectual games are organized for our guests.

Birthdays for children from social risk groups

Happy Birthday

This action is aimed at children from families at risk or with special needs, as well as to the elderly, who celebrate their anniversary and are over 70 years old. Our volunteers are happy to arrange holidays for children and their parents, who for various reasons were not able to afford it. Being a pirate on a ship or going to a Hawaiian party, or maybe even looking for the Golden Key with Pinocchio – this is all decided together with a birthday boy or girl and his/her parents. For the birthday of the elderly, there is arranged an amazing meeting. Young people visit older people and help them gain new skills and discover new things. Volunteers usually give flowers and sweets, but the most important thing is communication, which, as a rule, happens on its own. In addition, volunteers-coordinators sign postcards in advance and send them with congratulations from the entire office to the address of the person, who has birthday.

Gifts for lonely elderly people

Holidays Poste Restante

Any interested person can give tasty presents to lonely elderly wards. In order to do this, on certain dates before the holidays of Rosh Hashanah, Hanukkah and Purim, you need to bring the necessary set of tasty treats to the office. It is stipulated in advance which treats you can bring, but there are usually sweets, fruits and juices. Before Rosh Hashanah, for the second year in the family camp there will be held a Master Class on making postcards, which will be sent to the Hesed clients. Anyone who desires can take part in this action. Children can make postcards and decorations, parents and young people bring food, and teenagers help to pack it up and deliver to the addresses.
